Uterine Relaxants

and These are the group of drugs which are mainly used to delay labour when premature contraction are present by decreasing uterine contraction. These are also known as Tecolytics agent. They are used to delay or postpone labour, arrest threatened, abortion and in dysmenorhoea. Tecolytics agents are beneficial for short term use either for transfer to the centre with neonatal facilities of for allowing 48 hrs for Corticosteroid to be given.

  • Calcium channel Blockers (CCBS)
    • Nicardipine
    • Nifedipine
    • Verapamil
  • COX-inhibitor
    • Sulind ac.
    • Indomethacin
  • Betamimetics
    • Terbutaline
    • Ritodrine
    • Isoxsuprine
  • Oxytocin Antagonist
    • Atosiban
  • Magnesium Sulphate
  • Others
    • GTN
    • Halothane, fluorinated inhalation general contact.
    • Nitric Oxide
