Application of the Computer

Subject: Computer and Information Technology Application

Overview

The computer is an incredibly amazing device because it can always accomplish any task in any sector. It has had a significant impact on how we live, think, and function. Computers have made countless advances in the fields of communication, tourism, banking, insurance, business, industry, transportation, education, entertainment, the home, and medicine. Critical, mathematical, and risky activities can be completed by computers with astounding speed and accuracy.

Everywhere has a need for computers. Their use is found in practically every aspect of life, even those where extremely quick computations are necessary.

Applications of Computer:

Nowadays, practically all departments employ computers to complete tasks more quickly and accurately. Every month, they may quickly and easily produce the pay bill for all of the employees by keeping track of their records. In addition to major applications, there are numerous small- to medium-sized company applications that directly enhance revenue by reducing costs or enhancing customer service. Some of the prominent areas of computer applications are:

  • In communication: In communication, information is transferred from one place to another in the form of audio, video, text, hypertext, etc. These things can be moved utilizing a mix of resources, hardware, software, and good networking. People from all around the world can easily and quickly communicate with one another.
  • In Tourism: In the tourism industry, hotels employ computers to expedite billing and verify room availability. Reservations for both trains and planes are made using computers. On a computer, scale models may be viewed and examined from many angles by architects. Now, structural issues may be resolved fast and precisely.
  • In Banking: Additionally, banks have begun making good use of computers. The main computer is centrally located, while terminals are placed in each branch. With the help of this framework, the branches can access the central computer system to find out information about their current balance, deposits, fees, overdrafts, interest rates, and other things. Unlike hand sorting, which takes a lengthy time, computers can read and sort MICR-encoded cheques at a rate of 2500 per minute. Through the use of computer signals sent through wires and telephone lines, electronic funds transfer (EFT) enables quick and efficient money transfers.
  • In Insurance: When processing a high number of insurance policies, computers are successfully used by insurance companies. The computer records the dates of each policy's maturity and premium payments, computes the assured amount based on the plan's benefits and interest calculations, prints notices of policy renewal, and distributes them to all clients.
  • In Industry: Factories and various industries of all kinds are where computers are used most frequently. From tedious and dangerous jobs like welding to extremely complicated jobs like process control, they have made labor easier and more flexible. Computers can be used to monitor machinery. In addition, computers are used in product manufacturing and quality control checks. Besides, thermal power plants, oil refineries, and chemical industries are fully dependent on computerized control system because in such industries the delay between two major events may be just a fraction of a second.
  • In Transportation: Nowadays, computers enable planes to land in the midst of severe weather. The aircraft is equipped with a number of sensors that monitor the plane's direction, speed, and altitude. All of this data is used by the computer to maintain the plane's course. The auto-pilot feature has made piloting considerably simpler. In order to avoid the last-minute rush, it is also possible to secure a confirmed seat assignment on the aircraft you will be flying on the desired day and check your bags at the airline office rather than the airport.
  • In Education: It has been shown that computers make good teachers. They can impart to you knowledge that has been imparted to them by experts with all the perseverance in the world. It is capable of quickly answering a number of academic questions. You are welcome to review a lesson a hundred times; even if you grow sleepy, the computer will continue to instruct you. The use of computer-based instructions and computer-aided learning (CAL) is a frequent practice in the classroom. Encyclopaedias on computers may provide you a ton of knowledge about anything. Computers and networking frequently produce an accessible global e-learning environment.
  • In Entertainment: For those who enjoy amusement, computers are viewed as excellent tools. There are a variety of computer games available, from thrillers to sophisticated mind games. People can play common outdoor games like basketball, cricket, and football on computers in a beautifully replicated setting with catchy effects. Additionally, it enables enjoyment through a large range of entertainment-focused application programs, including the ability to view movies, listen to music, and pleasure.
  • At Home: A computer is used to access a lot of information on the Internet and to keep private or individual records at home. People can create a household budget on a computer at home and keep accurate tabs on their spending.
  • In Medical sector: Computers are used in almost every aspect of medical work. Computers are utilized, for instance, to manage patient histories and related records. They are also used to keep track of pharmacy-related documents, conduct medical experiments, diagnose ailments, make observations, and operate medical equipment, among other things.
  • In Business: It is now difficult to operate a business in today's global markets without the usage of computer technology. Computers provide for the swift and convenient completion of business tasks. By using computers, the administrative paperwork is also reduced. Online tools are widely used by businesses to connect with clients and sell their goods. Inventory management, payroll, accounts receivable and payable, interest calculation, budget prediction, project appraisal, bookkeeping, tax computation, and other important business applications are just a few.

Capabilities of computer:

  • Through mistake detection, the machine completes tasks with 100% accuracy while doing computations hundreds of times faster than a human.
  • It can perform the tasks repeatedly without making mistakes, doing away with the tiredness that a human body causes.
  • It has the capacity to enable the operation of multiple media simultaneously as multimedia, including audio, video, text, and images.
  • Computers are used as educational aids in numerous schools, colleges, and institutions.
  • Computers can conduct dangerous and important activities that could be unsafe for humans to perform.
  • It may offer the pertinent data needed to speed up the decision-making process.
  • Computers have enormous storage capacities that can accommodate a variety of data, files, and user information.
  • Computers can get data from a variety of sources, in the form of text, number, voice, photograph, etc.

Limitations of computer:

  • Software designed specifically for one brand may not work with another.
  • For it to function properly, some knowledge or skills are needed.
  • Since computers don't have their own brains, they are artificially intelligent.
  • It cannot function properly or effectively without the programs that are stored in its memory.
  • Data cannot be memorized by a computer unless specific instructions are given to save the data.
  • While carrying out the task in accordance with requirements, the order of computers cannot be changed.
