Elements of Communication

The communication process includes seven components.

  • Sender/Speaker
  • Encoding
  • Message
  • Channel/ Medium
  • Receiver/Audience
  • Decoding
  • Feedback

Sender/ Speaker

Sender or communicator is the term used to describe a person who intends to communicate a message with the goal of disseminating knowledge and concepts to others. He or she has to understand these things in order to communicate effectively.

  • The goals are precisely stated.
  • Know the topic thoroughly and show enthusiasm in it.
  • Get to know the audience members and build relationships with them.
  • Speak to the receiver's level.
  • Select the best channel for communication.

Encoding

Thus the communication's message or subject matter is abstract and immaterial. Use of specific symbols, including

  • Words
  • Actions
  • Pictures

Encoding is the process of converting subject content into these symbols. Additionally, effective communicators know how to convey their ideas in a way that the intended audience may easily understand. These communicators make for effective encoders.

Message

The topic of the information that is meant to be communicated is known as the message. The message could be an order, suggestion, attitude, feeling, or opinion. Delivering the message should be

  • Clear and easily understood.
  • On the wants and interests of the audience.
  • Precise
  • Should contain accurate information on the subject.
  • Timely
  • Meaningful

Channel/Media

The individual who want to communicate must select the medium via which the necessary data will be sent. Through specific, formal or informal routes, this knowledge is communicated to the audience or receiver. For the message to be delivered on time, the channel needs to be dependable. There are three channel/media systems.

  • Relational Interaction
    • Face-to-face interaction.
  • social Media
    • Television, radio, print (books, newspapers), and the internet.
  • Old-fashioned or Folk Media
    • Folk dance and musical drama.

The network ought to

  • Affordable
  • Appropriate
  • Appealing

Receiver/Audience

The recipient is the recipient of the message or the intended recipient of the message. The message should be conveyed to the recipient taking into account their age, area of interest, degree of education, culture, and worldview, among other factors. The recipient ought to

  • Be informed, engaged, and open to the message.
  • Pay close attention to what you hear.
  • Realize the importance of the message.
  • Provide criticism

Decoding

When someone receives a message or symbol from a communicator, they attempt to translate it so they can understand its meaning.

Feedback

Feedback is the process of making sure the recipient of the message understood it and providing comments so the sender can make changes and enhance the communication to make it more persuasive and well-liked by the audience. The criticism must be valid and pertinent to the topic.
