Criteria for the Type of Nurse Family Contact

Objectives of nurse-family contact

Depending on the purpose of the contact, nurses may contact their families. A group conference is preferable if a large group is to receive health education.

• Availability of time
  The type of contact is determined by the nurse and family's availability of time. The clinic visit is preferable if the nurse has less time. If the family members are occupied with their field work, a home visit might not be appropriate. Visits to businesses or schools are also not permitted over the holidays.
• Accessibility and availability of resources
  If a nurse lacks the resources to offer health education or services, family contact is neither effective nor feasible.
• Nature of client
  The sort of nurse-family contact is determined in part by the nature of the clients. A visit to the client's school is great if they have children, and a visit to the client's home is ideal if they are housewives.
• Types of health services to be provided
  A clinic visit is required for routine care, a group meeting is required to provide an awareness program, and a school visit is necessary for school health programs like the TT program.
• Identification of sources of infection
  To identify infection sources, nurses with family contacts can be chosen. The best way to locate the infection source during an endemic or epidemic is through a home visit.
