Overview

The immune system, which is our body's natural barrier against illness, is gradually attacked by the HIV virus. There are numerous different HIV strains, and an infected person may have several different strains of the virus in their body. There are many groups and subtypes within the kinds into which these are divided. There are two primary types: H1N1 H2N2 The following steps are crucial for combating the HIV endemic in Nepal. Both immediate action and long-term continuity and sustainability are required.

The immune system, which is our body's natural barrier against illness, is gradually attacked by the HIV virus. A person's ability to fend off infections and diseases will be compromised if they contract HIV. A type of white blood cell known as a T-helper cell is destroyed by the virus, which replicates inside of it. CD4 cells are another name for T-helper cells.

There are many different HIV strains, and an infected person may have several different strains of the virus in their body. There are many groups and subtypes within the types into which these are divided. There are two primary types:

  • HIV-1: The most prevalent variety found globally
  • HIV-2: With a few cases in India and Europe, this is mostly found in Western Africa.

PHC Issue

The following actions are crucial for combating the HIV endemic in Nepal. Both immediate action and long-term continuity and sustainability are required.

  • Stress the importance of HIV/AIDS as a development issue needing strong, vocal leadership. Medical and clinical intervention cannot end the epidemic on their own. HIV prevention and control need for a multisectoral strategy that includes fields other than health.
  • Show that a larger, more comprehensive response is required in order to improve management, collaboration, and coordination between the public and private sectors, as well as implementation.
  • Gather resources to scale up an effort to respond to MARPs, such as female sex workers, drug injectors, and men who have sex with men.
  • For young people, mobile populations, female sex workers, injecting drug users (IDUS), and men who have sex with men, scale up advocacy, behavioral change activities, and health promotion interventions. (MSM)
  • Promote the use of condoms in both casual and commercial sex and implement harm reduction initiatives for IDUS and related patterns. Address any objections to implementing more extensive harm reduction measures, such as providing IDUS with clean syringes and needles.
  • Give people living with HIV/AIDS comprehensive care that includes widely accessible voluntary counseling and testing services, the ability to treat opportunistic infections, the implementation of high-quality structured treatments, and strict adherence to monitoring.
