Fall

Subject: Child Health Nursing

Overview

Falls account for 44% of all child accidents and are the most common cause of accident in a home. The majority of falls include tripping over on the same level, while falls between two levels, like falling out of a pram or highchair or from a bed, result in the most devastating consequences. Early in life, accidents involving falls from beds, windows, chairs, furniture, playground equipment, stairs, and playground equipment are common causes of emergency situations. Age-related increases in motor activity, curiosity, and unclear depth perception can all contribute to falls. By securing a nail and using a guard rail in a window, maintaining railings as necessary, placing pace gates at the top and bottom of stairs and place carpeting under the crib and in a bathroom, we can prevent falls
