Overview

It is a form of viral infection of the skin brought on by the herpes simplex virus 2 virus and characterized by a clustered vesicular eruption. Acute gingivostomatitis, discomfort of the mouth, salivation, fever, malaise, vesicles, herpetic rhinitis, keratoconjunctivitis, and genital herpes—vesicles on the vulva, cervix, or prepuce—are among the clinical symptoms of herpes simplex. Herpes zoster is a herpes zoster virus-induced unilateral, inflammatory, vesicular eruption. Herpes zoster's clinical symptoms include pain with hyper-anesthesia along a nerve's length, fever, and dematous patches along a nerve. They are quite painful and tender, and there is a unilateral rash, swollen, uncomfortable, and tender lymph nodes in the area. Herpes zoster is treated symptomatically with NSAIDs, steroid cream, calamine lotion, and Acyclovir 800mg. 5 times daily.

Herpes Simplex

It is viral infections of the skin characterized by a grouped vesicular eruption and caused by herpes simplex virus 2 type of virus.

HSV – 1 causes oral infection.

HSV- 2 causes genital infection

Clinical Feature

  • Acute gingivostomatitis mouth pain, salivation, fever, ill feeling, and vesicles.
  • Herpetic hay fever.
  • Keratoconjunctivitis.
  • Vesicles on the vulva, cervix, or prepuce are signs of genital herpes.

Treatment

  • Acyclovir cream 4 hourly.
  • Oral acyclovir 800mg 5 times a day.
  • Amitriptyline for pain
  • Anti- histamine for itching.

Herpes Zoster

It is a unilateral, inflammatory, vesicular eruption caused by herpes zoster virus.

Clinical Feature

  •  IP- 7 to 21 days.
  •  Site thoracic and lumbar dermatome.
  •  Pain with hyper- anesthesia along the course of the nerve.
  •  Fever.
  •  Edematous patches along the course of a nerve. these are very tender and painful.
  •  Vesicles – bullal vesical occur in crops.
  •  Regional lymph nodes are enlarged, painful, and tender unilateral rash.

Treatment

  • Symptomatic by use of NSAIDS, steroid and calamine lotion.
  • Acyclovir 800mg. 5 times daily.
