Overview

Chickenpox is an acute highly infectious disease caused by varicella zoster virus.

Mode of Transmission

  • Face to face contact and droplet.

Incubation Period

14-16 days

Clinical Features

  • Pre-eruptive stage

    • Sudden onset with mild to moderate fever
    • Back pain, shivering, malaise
  • Eruptive stage

    • Superficial, unilocular, dew drop like rashes throughout the body.
    • Temperature rises with each fresh crop of rash.

Management

  • Symptomatic treatment
  • Isolation of the patient
  • Maintain nutritional & hydration
  • Maintain comfort
  • Psychological support
  • Monitor the vital signs
  • Advice to was loose dress
