Overview

Cholera is a small intestine infection caused by the bacteria vibrio cholera. Cholera is an infectious disease that causes severe watery diarrhea that, if left untreated, can lead to dehydration and even death.

Cholera Causes:

  • Municipal water supplies
  • Food and drinks sold by street vendors.
  • Raw or undercooked fish and seafood.

Incubation Period

From few hours to 5days usually 3 days

Signs and Symptoms

  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Dehydration
  • Loss of skin elasticity
  • Rapid heart rate.
  • low blood pressure

Diagnosis

  • A rapid dipstick test
  • Stool and swab investigation

Treatment and Prevention

  • A vaccine against cholera.
  • Washing your face and hands.
  • Drinking boiled water.
  • Washing dishes and utensils that you use to eat or prepare food.
  • Avoid unpeeled fruits and vegetables.
  • Avoid unpasteurized milk and milk products.
  • Prevention of vomiting.
  • Antibiotics therapy
  • Sterilization
  • Water purification
  • Fluid balance maintains
  • Electrolytes maintains
  • Advice for water purification.
