Nepal Red Cross Society ( NRCS )

Since its establishment, THE NRCS has been involved in a variety of health-related initiatives. Health interventions have been implemented on a regular and project-specific basis.

Regular operations include ambulance service, blood, eye care, first aid, condom day, and basic health care, whereas project-based activities include community-based health programs, AID's project targeting various populations, and the eastern area family planning the enlarged project.

Mission

NRCS, guided by red cross essential principles, is devoted to providing high-quality assistance to vulnerable people by mobilizing its nationwide network of volunteers and professionals and collaborating with communities and other stakeholders.

Strategies

1. NRCS community-based health services will be expanded and strengthened through an integrated PHC strategy.
2. Encourage the availability of safe drinking water and sanitary facilities.
3. Create and administer a community-based child health program that focuses on main killer diseases.
4. Provision of contraceptive devices, both temporary and permanent.
5. Boost HIV/AIDS preventive and control efforts.
6. Ensure an adequate and timely supply of safe blood.
7. Develop and implement health-in-emergency strategies as well as an appropriate service package in collaboration with the relevant NRCS functions.

Major Services

1. Ambulance services
   Since 1964, the NRCS has provided regular ambulance service as one of its key components.
2. Blood transfusion service
   The Nepal government has handed NRCS sole authority over the country's blood program. There are 68 blood transfusion centers and 25 hospital units in the city.
3. Eye care service
   Aside from other health-related initiatives, an institutional and community-based method has been used to provide primary eye care services primarily in the Janakpur, Bheri, and Karnali zones.
4. HIV & AIDS prevention, care, and support program
   In five districts, the Red Cross is developing an HIV prevention, care, and support program. The emphasis has been on preventing additional infection, expanding care, treatment, and support for HIV-positive people and affected communities, and reducing HIV-related stigma and discrimination.
5. First aid services
   One of the primary functions of the NRCS is to provide first aid services. In both rural and urban communities, the service is offered by NRCS trainers and volunteers from district chapters, sub-chapters, youth circles, and the cooperation committee.
