Overview

Population Services International/Nepal (PSI)

It is a nonprofit organization with headquarters in Washington, D.C., and it works to solve the health issues that low-income and vulnerable populations face in more than 65 developing nations. It was started in 1970 with the goal of enhancing reproductive health through commercial marketing techniques.

PSI is a renowned health organization with initiatives for HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, malaria, and child survival. This charity helps the most vulnerable people in the globe lead healthier lifestyles by offering life-saving products, clinical services, and behavior change education.

Objectives

  • To boost utilization of certain maternal and pediatric healthcare services
  • To promote usage of services for malaria prevention and treatment
  • To increase local partners' ability to carry out effective FP/RH/MCH and malaria programs.

Areas of focus

  • Women's Health Project
    • The Women's Health Project is implemented in collaboration between the Nepali government and PSI/Nepal. This program focuses on increasing access to high-quality medical abortion products and services, particularly through private sector service providers and social marketing initiatives, in order to encourage the use of long-term contraception and decrease unsafe abortion.
  • Malaria Control and Prevention
    • Illam, Jhapa, Morang Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sindhuli, Kavre, Nawalparasi, Banke, Bardia, Kailali, Kanchanpur, and Dadeldhura are 13 of Nepal's high-risk, malaria-prone districts that are the focus of joint efforts between the Nepali government and PSI/Nepal.
    • Free long-lasting insecticide-treated Nets are distributed by PSI/Nepal and local NGO partners to households residing in high-risk areas, and inter-personal behavior change communications are also provided through a network of community-based organizations with a focus on pregnant women and young children.
  • Safe water
    • To expand access to clean drinking water, PSI/Nepal social markets water guard, a secure and reliable household chlorine solution.
  • Fortified Complementary Food
    • In order to address the issue of iron deficiency anemia among children between the ages of 6 and 24 months, PSI/Nepal introduced champion, a fortified complementary food.
